International Diamond Council publishes IDC rules in Chinese

Antwerp, Belgium – July 1, 2010: The International Diamond Council (IDC) announced its intention to post a Chinese-language version of its "IDC Rules for Grading Diamonds" on its website. At the same time, it will also post the updated, English-language and authoritative version of the IDC rules.
IDC Chairman Stephane Fischler said the Chinese translation was the first of a series of translations that would be made available. "The IDC rules need to be accessible to a wide as possible, global audience. Since the IDC rules are the diamond business' single, authoritative, international set of rules with regard to nomenclature, we will continue to make them accessible to a wide audience and into as many languages as we can.
The IDC Chairman thanked the Shanghai Diamond Exchange (SDE) and its President Mr. Qiang Lin for their longstanding support. He also expressed special thanks to SDE director Ms. Caroline Yuan, for her and her colleagues’ precious dedication in coordinating the translation. He also made note of his appreciation of the China Diamond Manufacturers Association and its president, Mr. Sandro Sze, as well as as well as Mr. Liang Weizhang from the China (Guangzhou) Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau, for their valuable advice.
"With new consumer markets gaining status and size, such as China, India and Russia, it is important that we continue to make the IDC rules widely available in these markets as well," Fischler stated. "By offering these downstream markets and their consumers these freely available international grading rules in their own languages, we will significantly contribute to lower the information threshold and enhance confidence in diamonds. Recognizing the need to further distribution of the IDC Rules, I look forward to have the IDC-rules translated in additional languages, such as Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, and Arabic."
Fischler said he hopes to garner industry-wide support for advancing additional translation projects during the upcoming 34th World Diamond Congress. "We will need some help from our colleagues, but I am sure we will get it," he noted.
The Chinese and updated, English IDC Rules will be made available shortly for downloading from the IDC website.
